Christ Church was the eighth oldest parish in the Diocese of Toronto, dating its establishment to (although there may have been Anglican services held in Mimico as early as ).

In the early s, William J. Gamble () opened a sawmill on Mimico Creek and a community developed. The founding of Christ Church Mimico has been established as when it was recorded for posterity that the four children of John and Margaret Peeler – Joseph, William, Mary Ann and Charles – were baptized.
